A 60th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION of an extraordinary, landmark year in popular culture…
1966 was an amazing year for pop culture, whether you’re talking TV, music, movies or, our favorite, comic books.
So for the first time in 13th Dimension’s almost 13-year (!) history, we’re doing a theme week spotlighting not a particular subject, but a particular point in time.
If you look at Walt Grogan’s latest phenomenal banner above, you’ll see just a selection of what came out 60 years ago — Star Trek, The Monkees, Batman, The Marvel Super Heroes, The Green Hornet, The Time Tunnel, Tarzan, the Beatles’ Revolver, Filmation’s Superman (and Superboy), Fantastic Voyage, Space Ghost, and Mission: Impossible.
And that’s just a slice. Our regular 13th Dimensioneers — joined by a number of special guests — will be covering the grooviest and ginchiest of 1966 over seven days, so make sure you bookmark this post, because we’ll be adding links as we go.
Why did we choose now, as opposed to, I dunno, June? Because so much of what we’re talking about began the second week of September, so there are a lot of specific 60th anniversaries upon us. (By the way, we’ll have a little Batman ’66 coverage, but we did a whole BATMAN ’66 WEEK in January, celebrating the show’s premiere that month.)
