Dig This UP-CLOSE LOOK at an Original BATMAN Costume

BATMAN ’66: Some fancy Bat-threads for you to check out…

UPDATED 4/27/24: Our friend, the late Dr. Stewart Berkowitz’s birthday was this week (he was born April 26, 1959). He was the “Alfred” who owned one of the greatest Batman ’66 collections ever. In his honor, this weekend we are presenting highlights from that collection, which we first featured in 2018. Click here for much more. — Dan

For the last few months, we’ve been showing you a series of original Batman ’66 costumes owned by an anonymous collector dubbed “Alfred.” It’s an extraordinary collection that includes all the main heroes and villains, as well as authentic and replica vehicles and assorted fascinating props.

So far, we’ve brought you UP-CLOSE LOOKS at Alfred’s Robin, Batgirl, Riddler and Catwoman costumes, as well as the original Penguin submarine prop from the 1966 movie. (Click here for much more on all that.)

A glimpse at the collection. All photos copyright Dan Greenfield and 13th Dimension.

But I’ve held back on Batman himself. Why? Because I was saving this for Adam West’s birthday. Seems appropriate, right? (West would have been 90 and you can click here to check out a bunch of our other celebratory features.)

So let’s get to it, citizens.

Now this Batman costume is almost 100 percent screen-used, Alfred says. The only replica is the utility belt. (The bomb is also a reproduction.)

The best part, though? That mask is none other than the famed pink cowl from Season 2’s romp The Contaminated Cowl/The Mad Hatter Runs Afoul. It was later repainted for the public-service announcement promoting equal pay for women that ran in the ’70s.

Just dig these pix.

That Adam West head was produced by Chuck Williams, by the by.

Check out the tell-tale pink showing from under the dark paint.
