This Summer’s BATMAN ’66 COMPENDIUM Improves on the Series Omnibus

A kinda-sorta epilogue to JOKER WEEK (and CATWOMAN WEEK)…

With Batman #1’s 85th anniversary come and gone, we’ve completed our JOKER WEEK and CATWOMAN WEEK celebrations. (They debuted in the landmark 1940 issue, natch.)

But as a wing-of-the-bat-that-bit-you hangover helper, we’ve got one more for ya: DC in August will be publishing the Batman ’66 Compendium, a softcover collection of the entire 2013-16 comic-book series, plus Batman ’66: The Lost Episode, and material from Solo #7. That’s the same line up as the hardcover Batman ’66 Omnibus, which was most recently released in 2024.

But, wait there’s more! As in more stories! The compendium will also include Batman ’66 Meets Wonder Woman ’77 #1-6 and Batman ’66 Meets the Legion of Super-Heroes #1 — the first time all of these stories have been collected together.

Dig the official solicitation:

Written by JEFF PARKER, MARC ANDREYKO, MICHAEL ALLRED, and more

Art by JONATHAN CASE, TY TEMPLETON, MICHAEL ALLRED, and more

Batman ’66, the hit comic book adaptation of the classic TV show (based on the comic charac-ter), gets collected in all its campy, tongue-in-cheek, sound-effects-laden glory in this huge paperback compendium. This expanded edition includes Batman ’66 #1-30, Batman ’66: The Lost Episode #1, and a story from Solo #7, plus the crossovers Batman ’66 Meets Wonder Woman ’77 #1-6 and Batman ’66 Meets the Legion of Super-Heroes #1.

A few thoughts:

— The Batman ’66 comics series improved as it went along, as the writers got a better feel for the nuances and cadences of the show. That said, I was not a fan of the Wonder Woman crossover mini. Here’s why.

— This is the first time the joyous Legion one-shot has ever been collected. It’s a good one.

— This obviously leaves out the Green Hornet, Man From UNCLE and UK Avengers crossovers. Holy rights issues!

  1. The Batman/WW crossover could’ve been easily fixed by simply having Bruce retire to run the Wayne Foundation after having rehabilitated most of his super criminals. Dick stuck around as Nightwing to handle any new threats and Ras was simply something he and Diana couldn’t deal with alone. Would have 100% matched the tone of the series and still reflected the change from 60s Batman to the Bronze Age.

  2. The cover to the hardcover is way better than this cover.

  3. Also left out is the Archie Meets Batman ’66 crossover series, I’m sure for those same rights issues as the other non-DC crossovers. Annoying, but understandable.

I do wish the series had done a Batman ’66 Meets Superman ’52 crossover…!
