HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Scott Tipton, columnist, 13th Dimension

Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #4, DC. That is a great cover.

Dan: Yeah, I’m buying it. I always do.

JLA Book One, DC Comics. Delighted to see the Morrison/Porter run back in print in a more affordable format.

Daredevil Epic Collection: The Concrete Jungle, Marvel. Ah, the pre-Frank Miller DD tales of my youth. Not as groundbreaking as what was to come, but still some prime Bronze Age Daredevil.

Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #4 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. This was my introduction to Secret Wars – I found it at a secondhand bookshop, stocking up on comics for a crosscountry family road trip. One look at that cover and I was hooked.

Dan adds: I never read the series the first time around, and I’m really enjoying reading the Facsimiles. People knock the story but it’s a kick if you don’t take it too seriously. Either way, I have always thought this was a great cover.

The Sensational She-Hulk #7, Marvel. I have to admit, Jen Walters and Jack of Hearts are my favorite comic-book couple in a long time.

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Shazam! #10, DC. Damn great variant cover by Miguel Mercado. Damn great.

Archie & Friends: Hot Rod Racing One-Shot, Archie. Introducing the hilariously named Daisy Thunder! Yet another reminder that I really need to do something on ’60s hot-rod comics.

Alter Ego #187, TwoMorrows. Spotlight on Edmond Hamilton, who spun some of the coolest comics stories of the Silver Age. (Our Peter Bosch did a great piece on him last year. Click here.)

  1. Thanks for the mention about my previous Edmond Hamilton article, Dan. And to my surprise, that article contained a link to an even earlier Hamilton piece I did. Wow, you didn’t nickname me “Prolific” for nothing.

  2. The cover of Captain Marvel is fantastic! I miss the more traditional look of a cover with the trade dress. But there is no denying the essence of a classic Marvel shot!

  3. I’ve had that Daredevil Collection on pre-order for months. Man Bull(from the previos collection)
The Torpedo intro, Jester trilogy, Ghost Rider cross-over were some of the first Daredevils I read.
