HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #4, DC. The unflinchingly brave series continues. Tim Sheridan and co.’s reimagination has been filled with drama and pathos. Very strong work.

Batman #428: Robin Lives!, DC. A second printing (!) of the hit “fauxsimile edition.” I’m passing on the Mignola black-and-white cover, but I’m in for the Aparo. By the way, this “From the DC Vault” thing is continuing. Come April, a revamped version of The Sandman #19 is due to be released: The book by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess will feature completely remastered pages from colorist Steve Oliff’s original hand-painted color guides. It will also include a foreword by Oliff discussing the remastering process and an all-new painted cover by Vess.

Daredevil: Born Again Gallery Edition, Marvel. An all-time classic by Miller and Mazzucchelli in a size that’s just a shade smaller than a Bronze Age treasury edition. Nice. (By the way, keep an eye out for RETRO HOT PICKS this week…)

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Batman/Superman World’s Finest 2024 Annual #1, DC. Leading things off with appearances by Metamorpho and the Challengers of the Unknown is a sure way to get me on board.

Dan adds: Do you hear that? That’s me continuing to bang the drum for a World’s Finest series about Batman and Robin’s early days, by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee.

The Amazing Spider-Man #252 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. I have to say, it’s a little weird when they have Facsimile Editions out for comics I remember buying the first time around. That said, this is a good one.

Dan adds: This may surprise you, but unlike Scott, I’ve never read these stories before. So it’s all new to me — and I am really looking forward to it! We’re getting a year’s worth of this run, beginning here.

Dark Avengers Modern Era Epic Collection: Osborn’s Reign, Marvel. Of all Bendis’ sizable stint on the Avengers books, I thought this series was his best-written and most innovative.

Author: Dan Greenfield

  1. I’m sad to report the Born Again GE is a bit of a dud. That red border on the cover carries to the interior design and its just awful.

    • Thanks for the heads-up! I was on the fence about the DD Born Again GE since I have the Marvel Premiere Classics edition, the omnibus, and the Artist Edition. I got off the fence.
