The passion project nears its completion more than five years after it began…
Godzilla is everywhere in American comics right now. The King of the Monsters is simultaneously battling heroes and villains in both the DC and Marvel universes, plus he’s got his own IDW franchise.
But dial back the clock a few years and you might remember the fan-produced Batman ’66 Meets Godzilla miniseries based on an actual 1960s film treatment. It launched online for free to a warm welcome in 2020 and we ourselves gave you the FIRST INSIDE LOOK at Issue #3 in 2022.
And then, like Godzilla has so many times, the project went into hibernation. Why? The same reason a lot of fan passion projects get sidetracked: Real life happened.
But those heavy, plodding footsteps you hear in the distance signal the project’s completion — finally! — later this summer.
“It’s been a five year journey to complete the book,” said writer Eric Elliott. “Originally, it was only going to be two issues but we were having so much fun that we extended the material to create a third. As a result, Issue #3 draws more on the Godzilla universe and we get to see new action heroes and a new Kaiju. We will also have some new pinups and a great new toy ad by Matt Dunn.
“In addition to Matt, I’m excited to tell you that the talents from Issue #2 have returned, including: John Paul Lona, Howard Simpson, Dane Amyotte, Steven Schilling, Ian Miller, Mohamed Rezk, Kero Wack, Brian Richard, and Ken Holtzhouser,” Eric added. “We are lining up to release the third and final issue this summer — late July/early August. And Issues #1 and #2 are still available on Batmanmeetsgodzilla.com.”
