A SNEAK PEEK at the era-appropriate logos for the Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1 covers…
As ROBIN WEEK, celebrating the Boy Wonder’s 80th anniversary, winds down, we’re already looking ahead to April, when Catwoman celebrates her eight decades in comics.
We recently showed you the decade-tribute variant covers for April 15’s one-shot Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1 (click here) but now we can reveal the final versions, complete with era-appropriate trade dress:
—
A few thoughts:
— As with the final covers for March 18’s Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular decade covers (click here), these really pop with the trade dress added.
— This is also the first time we’ve seen the color version of Cho’s ’70s cover and I dig the final look. (Quibble: Batman had the yellow oval at the time.)
— Of course, Catwoman didn’t headline her own series until the ’80s, so DC had to improvise for earlier decades. I think they acquitted themselves nicely.

These are absolutely beautiful.

Why wasn’t Jim Balent asked to draw the 90s version?

Also, I think Cameron Stewart or Rck Burchett would be a better choice for the 2000’s version.

My problem with theses,( and, mine you they are all very creative and very talented results,) is they don’t necessarily invoke a feeling of their expressed era. The later two being my strongest exception to this idea.
When they did the BATMAN or Superman ones, those dripped of the essence of their era. A ‘60s or, ‘50s cover should be more than just a particular costume.
It was for that reason I bought the BATMAN ones. Because i had to have the one that paid homage to a style in design as well as the state of the character in that era. But I also haven’t purchased any DC comics since the start of the New 52. The taste of others and the sales might say otherwise but this is just my opinion.

I think that’s fair, Buck. The artists are all top-flight, to be sure. But after Action #1000, it’s clear DC quickly pivoted away from trying to emulate artistic styles of a particular era. Instead, they’re mostly going with modern interpretations of old costumes and concepts, with the classic trade dress. It’s still cool but it’s different from what was originally introduced. For example, Kaare Andrews’ 1970s Robin cover is brilliant but the art itself doesn’t look like the Bronze Age. They still have some covers here and there that try to mimic a decade style, but mostly it’s modern art. I’m OK with that so long as the spirit is properly captured.

I bet 3 jokers is either joker has multiple personalities and thats why that chair batman sat in asked the question which one…..OR it means that there are multiple jokers in other ” earths” kind of like batman who laughs. and flashpoint where “joker” is martha wayne. i think its all too dumb and they should just get back to basics. on topic at hand
i would of liked to have seen alex ross do a joker and/or catwoman anniversary cover like detective 1000.
