Coming in October… In 2024, Simon & Schuster’s Gallery 13 label released a 50th anniversary reprint of the seminal ’70s collection Origins of Marvel Comics, to much ballyhoo. Not only was there a regular edition, there was a special, deluxe hardcover edited by our pal Chris Ryall that put the book in its proper context and addressed the elephant in the room — that the 1974 original got only a Stan Lee cover byline when the collection was filled with the work of creators such as Jack Kirby (primarily), Steve Ditko, John Buscema, John Romita and others. Last year, Gallery 13 re-released the sequel, Son of Origins of Marvel Comics, with such little fanfare that it escaped our notice — and we’re obsessives! (Click here for more info about that.) Now, upon our travels, we’ve happened upon a third 50th anniversary re-release — this October’s Bring on the Bad Guys!, also cover-credited to Stan Lee, but featuring the work of folks like Kirby, Buscema, Romita, Joe Sinnott, Gil Kane, and more. — Buncha thoughts: — The online description is pretty dinky — “Now back in print and timed for its 50th anniversary—the landmark book Bring on the Bad Guys by Stan Lee!” — The 256-page trade paperback is due Oct. 6, 2026, and lists for $21.99. SNEAK PEEK: The Demon’s Head recruits a fearsome foursome — all created from the ’60s to the ’80s — for an unforgiving ecoterror campaign… Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #55 hits Wednesday, and it features the return of Ra’s al Ghul, in all his mountain-lair, ecoterrorist glory. Ra’s — created by Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams in 1971’s Batman #232 — is by far the greatest Batman adversary who debuted in the Silver and Bronze Ages, so it’s only fitting that the Demon’s Head, in his 55th anniversary year, has recruited a quartet of supervillains who not only share his worldview in some way or another, but also made their first appearances in the same era: Poison Ivy (1966’s Batman #181), Ocean Master (1966’s Aquaman #29), Queen Bee (1963’s Justice League of America #23), and Tokamak (1983’s The Fury of Firestorm #18). I don’t typically care for Ra’s teaming up with other bad guys; I find he’s far more effective as a Blofeld type. But his collection of these “four harbingers of the apocalypse” fits his extremist mission to eradicate most of the world’s population to achieve his agenda of restoring balance to nature. Plus, there will be sword fighting at some point during this arc.
