13 JOHN ROMITA SPIDER-MAN COVERS to Make You Shimmy Like Mary Jane

A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION of the greatest Spidey artist of them all…

The late, great John Romita was born 94 years ago, on Jan. 24, 1930.

He’s one of my all-time fave artists and, to my way of thinking, the greatest Spider-Man artist who ever lived.

Now, we’ve done a bunch of 13 COVERS galleries over the years featuring Jazzy John and the web-slinger, but we pretty much stopped in 2020 when we named the the TOP 13 JOHN ROMITA SPIDER-MAN Covers — RANKED.

I mean, where do you go from there? How about back into the virtual back issue bins. Because few things in comics give me as much joy as looking at Romita’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. None of these made the TOP 13 I mentioned above, but that’s the thing about Romita: There’s so much more. And it’s time to these gaze at these covers again, including many we’ve never featured before at 13th Dimension.

  1. I have a Mr. Romita signed copy of issue 55. He signed on Doc Ock’s bottom lip which is absolutely perfect.

  2. Issue #69 with Kingpin would have made my list of top favorites. Those 3 early Kingpin covers are classic in my book.

  3. Love his art, it built on the evolution of Ditko’s art and move it to another level. In my opinion, no one has topped his art.

  4. No. 40 is just so iconic, and isn’t it satisfying to see good triumph over evil? And No. 55 is almost cinematic, reminiscent of the walking boss’ sunglasses in Cool Hand Luke. Great collection here.

  5. #134 was the first ASM I bought off the spinner.
And yeah, the Kingpin cover is iconic!

  6. Hmmm. I was almost going to say ASM #134 was Sal Buscema but I was thinking of Spectacular Spider-Man #1 whose cover is very similar (apart from the positioning of Spider-Man etc).
