THE FIRST ROBIN RETURNS: Bruce Wayne the Boy Wonder Is Back

SNEAK PEEK: The anticipated The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #6 revives the Harvey Harris saga…

When DC released the solicitations for The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #6 back in July, we got all excited because it teased the notion that the publisher would resuscitate the story that Bruce Wayne was the first Robin, an oddball concept that dates back to 1955.

Well, we were right. As this SNEAK PEEK shows, Batman/Scooby #6 — out Sept. 14 and written by Sholly Fisch — gives us a flashback tale of red-breasted Bruce Wayne and his P.I. mentor Harvey Harris (plus the Scooby kids, natch).

A few thoughts:

— I care not one whit that this isn’t “official” Batman or whatever and you shouldn’t either. This is damn fun and I absolutely love that this maxi-series has played with all sorts of obscure aspects of Batman’s history.

— Props to artist Scott Jeralds for not only perfectly capturing the original, iconic bat-through-the window moment but also nailing the Dick Sprang style of Harris. He also does a dandy Toth-flavored Batman. Groo. Vee. (Credit to colorist Carrie Strachan and letterer Wes Abbott too!)

  1. Sholly Fisch is seriously such an underrated writer! He consistently (& by consistently, I mean, each & every issue he writes!) hits it out of the park!

  2. It’s fun seeing Mystery, Inc. as their “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” selves.
