A format worthy of a gorgeous series…

Jeff Loeb and the late Tim Sale’s marvelous 1998 Superman For All Seasons is finally getting the format it deserves — an Absolute Edition due later in 2023.

Dig this official description:

ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN FOR ALL SEASONS

By Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale

Absolute Superman for All Seasons is a brilliant coming-of-age tale following the experiences and adventures that turn a country boy into the world’s greatest hero.

Told through the course of four seasons in the Man of Steel’s adolescent life, this collection illustrates that it is the person, not the powers, that makes Superman a hero.

The catalyst for the “Smallville” television program, SUPERMAN FOR ALL SEASONS is emotional and insightful, humanizing the alien from another planet so that he is not only realistic but also relatable. It also features in-depth characterizations of Lana Lang, Lex Luthor, Lois Lane and the Kents.

Absolute Superman for All Seasons collects Superman for All Seasons #1-4, Superman/Batman #26, Superman/Batman: Secret Files #1, and the Superman story from Solo #1 in stunning absolute format.

A few thoughts:

— The unsung hero of the series is colorist Bjarne Hansen. Just look at that sky!

— The story takes place in the John Byrne Man of Steel continuity but it doesn’t really matter. The miniseries stands just fine on its own.

— The book was solicited by DC recently, so it’s already up for pre-order at your local comics shop. It lists for $100 and is due Aug. 29, 2023.
