Second POWER OF SHAZAM! Hardcover Set to Be Released

Jerry Ordway and Peter Krause’s fan-fave series gets a follow-up collection…

The Power of Shazam! — DC’s popular ’90s version of the original Captain Marvel by Jerry Ordway and Peter Krause — is getting a hardcover collection in August, delayed from March.

Very cool.

But the company is already planning a follow-up for spring 2021 — The Power of Shazam! Book 2: The Worm Turns — according to a listing from Penguin Random House, DC’s book-market distributor.

Check out the official description, along with placeholder cover art:

A few thoughts:

— The 424-page hardcover is due April 20, 2021, and lists for $49.99.

— While Ordway, Krause and inker Mike Manley were the primary creators, luminaries such as Gil Kane, Curt Swan and Joe Staton also contributed.

— The Vol. 1 hardcover is expected Aug. 18, just weeks away.

— Standard caveat: This has not been solicited by DC yet, so nothing is official until it’s official. Even then, things can change. Just keep coming to 13th Dimension for updates.

  1. I love me some original Captain Marvel. (To heck with the MARVEL lawyers.) I really can’t stand what they have done to this character lately. I’ll enjoy picking this up. And, that list of credited creators are all favourites. Amazon here we go….

    • Yeah.. the modern “Shazam!” (Which is stupid on the face of it), is a shame. They took such a great concept and by shoehorning it into the DCU, ruined the character. Then, add the New52 vibe to it, and it’s garbage. For such an original character, with such a colorful universe and history, they just keep making it worse and worse. That being said, Ordway’s take on the character, while not perfect, is the last time it really was any good.

  2. I SO Hate the current DC’s Shazam title and the movie wasn’t all that great. I REALLY prefer the pre-FLASHPOINT DCU’s Captain MARVEL version, the comic was great and also loved Cap’s membership in the JSA (see JSA title series) and I was saddened when the Power of Shazam comic series ended it’s run.

You know….the DC Cinematic Universe may have faltered here and there (mostly a lot !…) but the CW network could come up with a POWER OF SHAZAM show or have him become a member (regular) of the JSA on STARGIRL and be called by his rightful name, CAPTAIN MARVEL. world’s mightiest mortal (Lawyers be damned !). Man, I can imagine the crossovers with the big Red Cheese appearing on the other shows….Batwoman, Flash, Legends and Superman and Lois….
