ROOFTOP AND MORE: You Gotta See DES TAYLOR’s Magnificent New BATMAN AND ROBIN Art

DESPOP TUESDAYS!

Among our myriad Bat-fixations here at 13th Dimension, the famed 1966 Batman and Robin rooftop pinup by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson is certainly one of them.

We’ve run tributes and homages and all sorts of whatnot the last couple years, including the original art itself.

So when I saw that our pal Des Taylor has his own version, my mind immediately went to “There’s a DESPOP TUESDAYS feature if ever I’ve seen one!”

So dig this:

Man, I want a Batman animated show that looks just like this. I also appreciate that Des’ version takes its own tack — darkening the night sky, giving us a more realistic background, and uplighting the Dynamic Duo.

One of the best parts of the original is the gigantic orange moon, but Des dispenses with it completely — and it still looks great. That’s a testament to both the original and Des’ talent.

Des has two other new Batman and Robin prints, too — riffing on the opening credits of Batman ’66 and the art of Dick Sprang — and he’s selling all three, plus the original sketches, at his website.

If you’re in a buying mood — and want to see the original sketches — click here for the rooftop; click here for the running shot; and click here for the Dick Sprang tribute.

There’s more where this came from, so expect additional Gotham City greatness in the weeks and months to come.
