It’s still — pun intended — a kick to see Batgirl merchandise coming out.
The latest Yvonne Craig totem is from Diamond Select, part of its ongoing line of mini-busts and statues. (I actually feared that the mini-bust line in particular was coming to a close until the SDCC reveals that Mad Hatter, King Tut and Bookworm were coming.)
This version of Batgirl, which was designed by Barry Bradfield and sculpted by Jean St. Jean (click here for more on how they created her), mimics a classic pose from one of the more famous ’60s publicity stills.
It works as a nice counterpart to Diamond’s 12-inch statue sculpted by Clayburn Moore …
… or as a complement to Batman and Robin, turning the Dynamic Duo into the Terrific Trio.
The facial likeness is middle of the pack, I’d say. Not as strong as the Otto Preminger Mr. Freeze or the Burt Ward Robin, which are two of my favorites of the series. But the color schemes, costume details and production value make Batgirl a solid addition to the $60-per-bust line.
I’m particularly taken with how they nailed the belt, they shiny bodysuit — and how it played off the matte, purple gloves. And you can’t really complete your collection without her, can you?
