JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA Bronze Age Omnibus VOLUME 3 Gets New Release Date

A long sought-after volume is finally back on the schedule for 2021…

Over the last few days, we’ve been posting about a number of DC collections that have been added to the 2021 schedule — and it looks like one of the most sought-after omnibi will finally be joining them: The Justice League of America Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 3.

The edition was cancelled in 2019 and legions of longtime fans have since been hoping for its eventual arrival in the market. At this point, the wait won’t be terribly long, according an Amazon listing.

Check out the official description, along with the book’s original cover by Karl Kerschl:

The 1970s adventures of the World’s Greatest Heroes continue as the Justice League of America meets fellow heroes including the Justice Society of America, the Legion of Super-Heroes, and a team of heroes from the long-gone past.

The Justice League moves into the second half of the 1970s with adventures guest-starring the Justice Society of America, the Legion of Super-Heroes, and a group of heroes from the long-gone past, including Jonah Hex, Viking Prince, Enemy Ace, and more. Plus, the League’s mascot, Snapper Carr, turns against the team, the Phantom Stranger helps the team battle a returning pantheon of ancient gods, the Martian Manhunter faces Despero for the lives of the League, and the Secret Society of Super-Villains swap bodies with the World’s Greatest Super-Heroes. Plus, Black Lightning is invited to join the JLA–but he turns down the invitation for mysterious reasons.

Collects Justice League of America #147-181.

A few thoughts:

— This is some prime Satellite Era JLA right here. The main creators are writer Gerry Conway, penciller Dick Dillin and inker Frank McLaughlin, but Steve Englehart, Paul Levitz and Marty Pasko are also among the contributors.

— The 880-page hardcover is due July 6. It lists for $125.

— My guess it that the cover art could change. DC’s been leaning more on period art for their omnibus covers lately.

— On a totally personal note, my all-time fave JLA-JSA crossover (Issues #171-172) is included. So, yay.

— Standard caveat: This has not been solicited by DC yet, so nothing is official until it’s official. Even then, things can change. Just keep coming to 13th Dimension for updates.

  1. Wow, love Hawkgirl/woman front and center–and the presence of RT on the cover.

    • I finally have all of the Justice League Silver Age/Bronze Age omnibuses, including the Detroit Era. Do you think there will be a Volume 4 to complete the series?

  2. So much fun in that era. Hawkgirl in the front would fit the animated series but seems out of place here. As does the absence of Green Arrow. And how I miss the thrill of the summer JSA team-ups. Those days have long gone the way of the dodo with their constant “big event”. By the way my favorite cover has to be the very early issue with the adult Robin from earth-2 on the cover.

  3. Buck, the cool thing about that cover is that there’s not a single JLA member on it. Pure love for the Justice Society, that one. I don’t know, off the top of my head, if there ever was a cover for Justlice League of America, up to that point, that didn’t showcase any of its members on the cover. My favorite cover as well, I’d pay a respectable sum if I could get a tee shirt with that Robin figure front and center…

  4. I have a nostalgic soft spot for Dick Dillin’s artwork. Also, I hope they keep the cover you posted (to maintain consistency with previous volumes).

  5. The omnibus cover is a “place holder” cover. The “tell” is the blue triangle in the bottom left corner.

The big question is whether or not the book will include the four Super-Team Family issues that the Wedding of the Atom hardcover included. If so, I can sell that book and totally replace it with the omnibus. If not, DC has once again put me in the position where I’m paying twice for some of the same material if I have both.

  6. This looks like a great book – but I’m really hoping to see the next batch after this (which includes Justice League 200) make it to an omnibus in 2022.

  7. Happy to see this, and I dig the cover, but they colored the Atom’s pants/boots wrong. I blame The Power of the Atom’s costume change for starting this confusion. Ray should be red from the abdomen triangle down to his toes, with blue belt and boots over them. Just nerdy nitpicky stuff.
