Dan Greenfield: What’s your Secret Origin?

Ann Nocenti: My dad, a scientist, had a laboratory of mouse experiments. My mom, a pharmacist, had a mortar and pestle collection in her apothecary. Somehow, I came out of that odd brew. I was, after all, destined to become the “mutant editor” when I took over the job of editing the Uncanny X-Men and a score of other mutant titles.

What are you working on now?

I just finished a six-part Klarion the Witchboy run for DC Comics, exploring such pressing questions of the day as “How evil are you?” and “Do I love or hate my tech?” Now I’m juggling a couple of secret projects to see which one falls in my lap. Who knows what’s next? Not me.

What’s your favorite convention memory?

When a girl came up to me dressed as Typhoid Mary, one of my craziest creations, and handed me a red magic marker, asking me to sign her chest. Who was I to refuse?

What are you reading now?

Right now, reading and loving The Damnation of Charlie Wormwood, by Christina Blanch, Chris Carr and Cee. I highly recommend this beautifully paced, gripping story, masterfully told.
