Dear DC: How About an AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS OMNIBUS?

PLUS: 13 AMAZING WORLD COVERS to make you feel good…

UPDATED 4/13/26: We first pubbed this in March 2021 but you know what? It still hasn’t happened. So join our renewed cry for Amazing World of DC Comics! And click here for our similar drumbeating for a FOOM omnibus. Dig it. — Dan

A couple weeks ago, I opined (a silly word, actually) that the time is right for a FOOM omnibus from Marvel. I mean, just this week, we’re getting the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Deluxe Edition Omnibus and this summer a bunch of the company’s 1970s black-light posters are being re-released. Those are just two examples of some groovy things Marvel’s had going on of late (with more to come) so a hardbound edition collecting the official fanzine’s 22 issues would be really far out.

John Romita pencils, Mike Esposito inks

Same for DC and Amazing World of DC Comics, which ran 17 issues plus a couple of specials, including the mag’s one-shot predecessor, Amazing World of Superman — a hardcover facsimile of which is due April 13, along with the Who’s Who Omnibus Vol. 1.

Anyway, these mags ain’t cheap and to put together a complete run of either will set you back some coin.

So, as promised, I reiterate the call for FOOM and Amazing World of DC Comics omnibi — and to entertain you in the meantime, here are 13 COVERS from DC’s Bronze Age in-house mag. (Click here for 13 FOOM COVERS.)

Right on.

Marshall Rogers

Curt Swan

Jerry Robinson

Michael Nasser (aka Michael Netzer)

Dave Cockrum. Good luck finding this one for a decent price.

    • That would be a fair amount of restoration work for something fairly niche.

Would I like a copy? Absolutely. But is it financially viable?

  4. I’d totally be down for an “Amazing World of DC” omnibus from DC themselves.

  5. Yes, please!!! I’m surprised TwoMorrows Publishing hasn’t done this yet!

  6. Yeah, you would think if DC wasn’t interested in doing it, it’s a no-brainer for TwoMorrows. That’s a chunk of Bronze Age history there.

  9. I’m too young to remember the Amazing World of DC Comics, but I would really love a hardcover collection of those monthly DC Releases newsletters that they used to give away for free in comics shops from the mid- to late-1980s.

  11. I still own these, are they really worth some money?

    • If they’re in good shape, yeah can be. Certain issues especially and definitely a whole run.

      • Thank you I guess I should dig them out at some point and put them up on eBay.

  13. I’ve been thinking about this lately, so, yeah, I’d plop down money for it.

  14. I am fortunate to have the entire run of AWODCC but would not mind the omnibus as well. This was such a well made fanzine.

  15. I would be in for this! If they can collect and reprint the vintage calendars, posters, style guides, tiny comics, etc. — then this should be do-able!
    What about Abrams?

  16. Would love this to become the next TwoMorrows big things — both the Amazing World and FOOM.

  17. I cheated–I’ve downloaded scans of all the issues, so I can read them whenever I want to. But I admit it would be nice to have a physical book to hold in my hands!

  18. I think, and I believe DC Archivist Ben LeClear will agree, that this would be historically important to preserve, and do so while some of the DC Woodchucks who created all this are still standing to write and record new commentary. That would be Paul Levitz, Bob Rozakis, Jack C. Harris, Tony Tollin, Steve Mitchell, and me.
