Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to… — Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension Three Fancy Batbooks, DC. After a lonnnnnnnnnnnng wait, Batman: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1 is finally here. One of the one most anticipated Batman books of the year. But wait there’s more! There’s also DC Finest: Batman — The Demon Lives Again! There’s overlap between the two but that really only matters if you’re a supercompletist. But wait there’s still more! We also get a new edition of Batman: The Brave and the Bold — The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1. Bat-damn! Scott adds, re: The Demon Lives Again!: The debut of Ra’s al Ghul and Talia, alongside hundreds of pages of Bronze Age Batman tales. — Batman #14, DC. The Bad Seeds event/crossover has been better than I’d anticipated but I’m still not sure I’m in for the long haul on the title. The upcoming “Assassination of Bruce Wayne” arc will be make or break, I think. — Batman #423 Facsimile Edition, DC. A Facsimile offered on the strength of the Todd McFarlane cover. An original will cost you a Batload of cash, so this is a welcome development for McFarlane fans. It’ll look great in foil for sure. — Superman: The Stranger #2, DC. The second chapter of the limited series that takes Superman back to the ’30s. We know who’s on the cover, but Clark Kent happens upon Lois Lane too. Matt Taylor’s variant looks like The Brutalist via Will Eisner: — JSA #24, DC. Jeff Lemire wraps up his series at Issue #24, closing out with the second part of the JSA-in-the-’50s two-parter. — Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death, DC. Lots of spooky Halloween stuff this week. Here, Hex does horror, courtesy of Michael Walsh. You could also call it “The Old Hex Returns.” Or “Old Man Hex.” Whatever, I’m definitely giving it a try. Cool new logo. Of the many variants, there’s this one by Brian Bolland, which is also available in a virgin version: — The Demon #1, DC. I dig this new logo too. Series is by James Harren and Dave Stewart. — Swamp Thing #1 Facsimile Edition, DC. The Wein/Wrightson classic, complete with foil and Super Powers covers, as well as a snazzy logo sketch variant. — Four From TwoMorrows. Alter Ego...
Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to… — Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension Batman by Neal Adams Absolute Edition: 1967-1970, DC. Announced late last year, it’s here! For an EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEEK, click here. For a wonderfully warm reminiscence by Adams’ daughter Kris, click here. Scott adds: The Absolute format is a perfect fit for the work of Neal Adams, who really came into his own on his early efforts on Batman, as represented here. — Superman: The Man of Steel by John Byrne Absolute Edition, DC. The other must-have Absolute Edition out this week. Released in celebration of the landmark 1986 miniseries’ 40th anniversary. Click here for an INSIDE LOOK. — The Amazing Spider-Man #1000, Marvel. Public Service Announcement: Retailers last week were told that a lot of the gajillion covers were being allocated. In other words, your shop may not have every one that you want. Don’t yell at the store owner; it’s not their fault. Since I see variants as small pieces of art, I have four covers on order. Fingers crossed all of them show up: — Dark Shadows #1 Facsimile Edition, Hermes Press. I didn’t know about this! The first Gold Key issue, from 1968! Complete with the poster! — Archie Jumbo Comic Magazine #2: Christmas Extravaganza, DC. I love the new magazine-size editions from Archie. These middle-age peepers can’t do no digests. — DC W.I.P. Watchmen #1, DC. Dave Gibbons’ original art for Issue #1, in 11″ x 17″ size. — Poison Ivy #48, DC. I’m not a regular reader of the series, but I’ve been picking up a couple key issues from the Bad Seeds event/crossover. This is evidently one of them. Worth noting is this sweet Dark Knight Returns 40th anniversary variant by Hayden Sherman: — X-Men United #7 Alex Ross Timeless Variant, Marvel. Since I don’t know Marvel as well as DC, I don’t know who this is. But I want to! — Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension The EC Archives: The Complete Piracy, Dark Horse. Much like their recent Valor collection, Dark Horse once again offers some of the more obscure EC comics in a very nice package. — Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book I and II, Marvel. All of Marvel’s Indiana Jones comics (including the movie adaptations), collected in two gorgeous hardcovers. Featuring work by...
