DESPOP TUESDAYS! By DES TAYLOR Last week, after a grueling four-day stint at the Middle East Film & Comic Con in Abu Dhabi, I popped down to Dubai to visit the pop culture mecca known as Comicave, situated in the Dubai Outlet Mall on Route 66. This is the second version of the store, the first being at the front of the mall, containing a full set of Iron Man armour (including the mechanical suit-up machine); a Darth Vader meditation chamber as a checkout; and the Iron Throne from Game Of Thrones as some of the highlights. This megastore is their new pop-up — which is the size of an Asda or Walmart — before they move into their permanent location next year, boasting a convention hall next door and an Art Deco-style cinema. I was honoured to see the building’s progress… and, yes, my jaw dropped. Anyway, here are 13 PIX of my favourite statues in the store, from companies like Sideshow, Iron Studios ; I could have filled up my camera… seriously. If you’re ever in Dubai, go visit. You will not be disappointed. — Want more DESPOP TUESDAYS? Come back next week! Want a commission? Buy prints? Buy Des’ comics? EXCLUSIVE! Keeping with the Justice League theme… You may recall that this year’s Black Canary Super Powers cover originally slated for the Justice League of America #200 Facsimile Edition was cancelled because that book turned out to be treasury-size. It didn’t make sense to do a Super Powers variant for it, so it was put on ice — until now. The cover, by Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and Alex Saviuk, will now be attached to Justice League Unlimited #26, due December 23. It’s not a Facsimile, but it fits the theme, at least. The cover, which lists for $5.99, will be the last release of the third Super Powers variant wave. It’s not clear whether another wave is coming, but word around Star City is that something else is cooking, at least. — MORE — DC Adds FOUR FACSIMILE EDITIONS to Its DECEMBER Schedule.
