A SPECIAL HALLOWEEN TALE: When the BEN COOPER DC KIDS Took on the CLASSIC MOVIE VAMPIRES

A real treat from a 13th Dimension reader!

It’s Halloween! Oh, hooray! One of my favorite days of the year.

Our readers love it too, natch, and one of them, Jason Czernich, got in on the act this year with a really groovy Halloween tale about kids bedecked in DC Comics Ben Cooper costumes getting menaced by the movies’ greatest vampires.

Naturally, he used NECA’s action figures of both varieties and constructed a diorama setting for his spooky showdown.

“I believe I wore the Batman Ben Cooper costume for Halloween in preschool, two years before I started reading Batman and Detective Comics regularly in the fall of my first-grade year,” Jason said. “My favorite period of comics is the Bronze Age as I started reading comics on its tail end in 1984 and have early memories of Power Records and other Bronze Age-style Batman packaging. Watching reruns of the 1966 Batman series on TV-38 in Boston was where it all started for me.

“I’m not exactly sure why I did this diorama except that I thought it would be fun and I think that the world needs more of that right now,” he said.

He’s right. Dig this — and yes, there are 13 PHOTOS:

By JASON CZERNICH

It’s Halloween 1989. A group of friends take a shortcut through the woods while trick-or-treating. Nothing dangerous about that, right?

They are not alone!

What’s this?! Attacked by vampires!!!!!!

Count Orlok!

Count Dracula!

Count Dracula?! Which is the true Dracula? Does it even matter?!

The Vampire in the Beaver Hat! Is he more than he appears to be?

Wait! Help has arrived! It’s Professor Van Helsing and his makeshift candle-holder cross!

And the Vampire in the Beaver Hat isn’t really a vampire! He’s Professor Burke, an old ally of Professor Van Helsing! Their crosses are driving off the deadly coven of vampires!

The kids are safely protected behind the professors!

Even the big, bad vampire bat is on the wing!

Thank goodness the kids all survived safe and sound!

OR DID THEY?

Love it, Jason. Love it.

And not an AI tweak in sight.

“The trees were purchased on Etsy and eBay,” he said. “The leaves on the ground, background wheat, and ground cover edging were purchased on Amazon. The black foam board and grass floor of the diorama, as well as the oil pastel to make the moon were from my local Michaels. The LED lights for the moon were from Amazon. The dry ice was from this place.

Well, Happy Halloween, Jason — and the rest of you 13th Dimensioneers!
