We ran some pretty cool Batman art by Matt Wagner the other day. Great stuff.
Then Thursday, Alex Ross posted his latest painting of the Darknight Detective on Twitter:
Also great stuff — and not just because of the classic Rossian Bat-imagery, but because of the inspired use of the dominant Bronze Age Batman logo. And though I think any color scheme for the logo would have worked, this palette really sets off the 3-D effect.
By the by, that color pattern was used a number of times in the Bronze Age. Here’s one really good example:

Hmmm… if he really wanted to pay tribute to Bronze Age Batman, he’d have the yellow oval. Other than that nit-pick, it’s gorgeous!
