Dig MATT WAGNER’s Superb Revamps of Classic BATMAN Covers

Actually Detective Comics, to be precise…

I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but I always dig it when artists re-envision classic comics covers. This time around, it’s Matt Wagner, who has been creating a series of commissions that give new life to Batman’s earliest Detective Comics adventures from 1939 and ’40.

Wagner said on Facebook that he’s been commissioned by a collector to do seven of these Detective covers and has produced five so far. With everyone thinking of The Batman this week, it seemed like a groovy time to show these beauties off, along with the originals.

Right on.

Naturally, there’s also Detective Comics #31 — one of the most homaged covers ever. Wagner himself did a version back in 2006 for Batman and the Mad Monk #1.
