13 SPLASH PAGES: The INCREDIBLE HULK Stories of BILL MANTLO

A BIRTHDAY SALUTE: One of comics’ most respected writers was born 71 years ago…

Bill Mantlo — who was born 71 years ago on Nov. 9, 1951 — was one of Marvel’s most prolific writers in the ’70s and ’80s, known for runs on Rom, The Micronauts and many others.

Among his best-known work was his five-year stint on The Incredible Hulk — which ran from Issue #245 to #313, plus a handful of annuals — and that’s where we find this year’s 13 SPLASH PAGES birthday salute.

Right on.

  1. Wonderful memories brought back by these pages. Bill and Sal created the run that I think of most fondly when I think of the Green Goliath.
    Thank you for posting.

  2. Woow! Great moments. Down here in Brazil this was my favorite run ever. For me this is the cream of Hulk. I am happy Panini Comics did republish most of it again back in 2019 and 2020!

  3. More drama happens in any one of these splash pages than 3-4 pages of any contemporary comic that Marvel puts out now. Bill and Sal were great storytellers that packed so much drama in each page and they didn’t need to isolate each character with their own panel to do it. These comics they did really move.
