13 COVERS: Howl For WEREWOLF BY NIGHT

This year’s groovy Halloween TV special inspires us to go back to the beginning…

Hey, have you seen Werewolf by Night on Disney+? It’s pretty cool if a little disjointed: Does it want to be a modern thriller or a riff on a Universal Monsters movie? Kinda both and it kinda works overall.

Either way, Gael Garcia Bernal looks like he’s having a good time and we at least get to see a mossy Giant-Size character named Ted.

In any event, Halloween is almost upon us, so it seems we’d be remiss if we didn’t do a 13 COVERS featuring the original Marvel Comics series Werewolf by Night (plus Jack Russell’s earlier appearances in Marvel Spotlight.)

  1. Wow! I stumbled across “Werewolf By Night” in a used store and snapped up back issues over the next few years! Love it! haven’t seen the tv movie yet! Oh, and noted horror writer Owl Goingback has written a “Werewolf By Night” story that should be available soon.

  2. Wow, there Wolfman is my favorite Universla Monster, so anything with a Werewolf on the cover or in the title was an instant purchase, including Doc Savage Brand of the Werewolf, and Marvel Spotlight. Mike Ploog’s art on this title and Frankenstein were outstanding, moody and witha nod to Ted, macabre. I’d like to see Mike redo Marvel Spotlight 3 cover with Elvira (Cassandra Peterson). Now that will calm a Werewolf’s soul. By the way, at that young age, I didn’t realize there was a dog breed that was the title character’s namesake. Those clever writers…..

  3. If my mother-in-law didn’t used to own a Jack Russell terrier, I’d be able to take Werewolf by Night a bit more seriously. As is, all I see in my head when I hear his name is thinking he has to go outside to potty OFTEN, and won’t take his pills without some cheese and rice. 😉
