13 COVERS: HOPPY the MARVEL BUNNY and Friends!

REVIEW: OK, so he’s not the Marvel bunny anymore …

You want to know how much the world of comics has changed? Here’s how much the world of comics has changed: Hoppy the Marvel Bunny, an anthropomorphized rabbit imbued with same magic word and powers as the original Captain Marvel, starred in not one, but two comics at the same time in the mid-to-late 1940s.

Two comics.

Wow.

But you know what’s cool? Here’s what’s cool: You can buy your very own Hoppy from DC right now this very minute were you so inclined. DC Collectibles has produced another couple of plush Super-Pets and Hoppy and Krypto are the latest animals of the hour, joining the likes of Dex-Starr and the forthcoming … Joker Fish!

Now, of course, Hoppy’s just Hoppy now, what with DC doing away with that pesky Marvel moniker. I suppose like his human counterpart, they could just call him Hoppy the Shazam Bunny, but Hoppy will have to do.

He is cute either way and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.

Each Super-Pet costs about $15. And we found out quite by accident that they make super pets for your super pet. I mean, here’s our cat Zod looking mighty pleased with himself:

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!

Anyway, the first time I saw Hoppy was in DC Comics Presents #34, when he served the role of deus ex machina in a wonderfully entertaining team-up between Superman and Captain Marvel Shazam!
