The fan-fave Bronze Age artist turns 71…
Given my particular obsessions, the first time I encountered Ed Hannigan’s work was when he was the Batman cover artist in the ’80s. He remains one of the best ever.
Of course, he also had a healthy run at Marvel with a string of memorable covers across a variety of titles. (He also co-created Cloak and Dagger with Bill Mantlo.)
So with Hannigan turning 71 — he was born Aug. 6, 1951 — this year’s 13 COVERS birthday salute is a tip of the pencil to his time at the House of Ideas.
Right on.

Well, that link didn’t work. How about this one – just click on the cover and it enlarges…

He does some nice Ditko channeling on the Spider-Man covers, especially on PPSS #69.

Ed Hannigan is great and that cover for FF 170 is classic. Unless I’m mistaken I thought he did layouts for all of issue 1 of the Cloak and Dagger 1983 limited series. He did the cover roughs for FF. 140 &144 too

My 3 favorite series in the 80s were ASM, PPTSSM, and Avengers. Thanks for some great covers, Ed Hannigan! And happy birthday!
