13 COVERS: A BRUCE TIMM Birthday Celebration

Beyond Gotham…

When you think of Bruce Timm, you think of Batman: The Animated Series. That’s natural.

But his career’s been much more varied than that.

So dig these 13 COVERS — without a Bat in the bunch.

But first a quick note: Various sources put Timm’s birthday as Feb. 5, 6 or 8. (He was born in 1961.) So to confuse matters completely, I’m posting on Feb. 7. This way, I’m guaranteed to be wrong. But if you happen to know the correct date, let me know!

Dig it.

Vampirella #3 (Harris Comics, 2001)

As far as I can tell, this tribute to Hammer Films was not a cover. But I love it so much, I had to include it. Especially since it prominently features Christopher Lee and Caroline Munro — the Ra’s al Ghul and Talia That Never Were.

    • Ah, so that’s where it came from! (Or at least that’s one place they showed up.) Thanks, Chris!

  2. I’m glad you included the Supergirl cover. From what I understand, Bruce Timm designed that particular Supergirl costume for the Superman animated series. Filmation’s character designers made costume changes for some of the DC heroes appearing in the Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure. DC signed off on the designs which helped with the limited animation/production, but since Filmation’s Aquaman was my first introduction to the character, I was surprised to find out he didn’t wear boots in the comic book series as he did in the animated series. Makes me wonder if any kids had the same reaction when they saw Supergirl wearing in a different costume in the comic books. Still, Bruce Timm rocks!
