His Batman defines a generation.
I was in my 20s by the time Batman: The Animated Series came out and I dug it for sure. Terrific stuff. But for people about 10 years behind me, that show is it — the foundation of Gotham, the greatest representation of the Caped Crusader, his allies and his enemies.
The chief mastermind was artist and producer Bruce Timm, who turns 56 this week. (He was born Feb. 1961, but various sources give the exact date as 2/6 or 2/8. Since Twitter is alive with well-wishes, I’m going with 2/6 until I hear differently.)
Timm’s art and impact go well beyond BTAS, obviously, but that’s where it started in the comics zeitgeist, so that’s the theme for these 13 COVERS.
And hey, with the show celebrating 25 years this fall, wouldn’t it be great if DC had a Bruce Timm Variant Cover Month in September? Yes, it would.
