WORKING WITH DITKO

128-page FULL-COLOR SOFTCOVER

Working With Ditko takes a unique and nostalgic journey through comics’ Bronze Age, as editor and writer Jack C. Harris recalls his numerous collaborations with legendary comics master Steve Ditko! It features never-before-seen preliminary sketches and pencil art from Harris’ tenure working with Ditko on The Creeper, Shade the Changing Man, the Odd Man, the Demon, Wonder Woman, Legion of Super-Heroes, The Fly, and even Ditko’s unused redesign for Batman! Plus, it documents their work on numerous independent properties, and offers glimpses of original characters from Ditko’s drawing board that have never been viewed by even his most avid fans! This illustrated volume is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the creative comic book process by one of the industry’s most revered creators, as seen through the eyes of one of his most frequent collaborators!

A few thoughts:

— The book is due Sept. 27, 2023, and lists for $24.95. It will be available at comics shops and booksellers but you can already pre-order it directly from TwoMorrows. Click here.

— Ditko is such an inscrutable character that I really look forward to reading the perspective of a pro like Harris. Great concept.

— “Ditko’s unused redesign for Batman!” Neat!

  1. Wow, that’s an excellent idea. By the way, Ditko’s original cover for Amazing Fantasy 15 is a Tribute to the Detective comics #27 cover.

  2. I’ll be getting this for sure. While I read his comics as I kid, I never appreciated his talent.

    • I’m not sure if anyone will re-visit this page, but I have since read the above-mentioned book. I couldn’t put it down.

The history and friendship shared between Jack and Steve was so enjoyable to read about. It really made me look again at Steve’s pencils with new (much older) eyes. There is so much there as a kid of the ’70s that was missed. Steve was a storyteller. Pure and simple.

In the last week I have spent a small fortune buying up the old issues that Jack mentions so I can read some new “to me” Ditko work. And, in the process, I’m also re-visiting Jack’s words on many of those titles. Thanks, Jack….. you’ve made comics fun again with the same comics I read 40 some years ago.
