WHAT IF MARVEL STUDIOS Produced… THE GREAT LAKES AVENGERS?!

SUNDAY FUNNIES WITH KERRY CALLEN!

It all started with this famous moment from The Avengers:

Then, over the last few years, Kerry began riffing on the stirring scene with a bunch of parodies, using DC characters, or 1970s Marvel TV characters, or comics horror characters, and so on.

You can click here to check them all out, but now he’s back with a new one that posits “What if Marvel cast the Great Lakes Avengers instead?”

Here you go:

“This latest commission is of the original Great Lakes Avengers, plus Squirrel Girl who later joined,” sez Kerry. “If you’re unfamiliar with these wacky John Byrne characters, they are, left to right; Squirrel Girl (created by Will Murray and Steve Ditko), Dinah Soar, Mr. Immortal, Doorman, Flatman, and Big Bertha.

“On a tangent thought… as I was drawing Flatman, it occurred to me he would have fit right in with some of the ’60s cartoon superheroes! Shows such as The Impossibles or The Mighty Heroes, with characters like Coilman or Ropeman!

  1. Oh wow! The neighbor kids and I used to pretend to be The Impossibles in the backyard; he had a chunk of cardboard he’d use as his shield as Multi-Man—ah, the Sixties!

  2. Excellent commission!
Starved for anything “Super-Hero” I absolutely couldn’t get enough of The Mighty Heroes, wow what a wave of nostalgia when I seen that pic in the article.

  3. Ten-year-old me was obsessed with The Impossibles (who, according to Wikipedia, lasted barely four months on the air). Good to see this trio connected with others as well.
