THE HUNTER: DAKOTA ALEXANDER’s New Comic Is Like a Time Machine to the BRONZE AGE

If they don’t make ’em like they used to, make ’em like they used to!

Artist Dakota Alexander, an American ex-pat living in Japan, has been a 13th Dimension favorite for a long time. Between his website and social media, he posts wonderful illustrations that hark back to the Silver and Bronze Ages.

We’ve featured his work many times, most recently in January, when we ran his take on the famed Carmine Infantino/Murphy Anderson Batman and Robin rooftop shot.

I’ve advocated for Marvel or DC to hire Dakota as a variant cover artist but, y’know, it’s not like I run those companies.

Dakota’s handiwork

No matter, really. Because Dakota’s doing it for himself with The Hunter, a new comic book that is a direct homage to Marvel’s horror superhero series of the 1970s. (Think Ghost Rider or Son of Satan.) Best part? You can own it.

Take a look:

Now, how to get your hands on a copy? Simple. Dakota’s crowdfunding it through Kickstarter — where it’s already a smash hit. His goal was $2,000 but he’s crashed through that, already passing $10,000 with about two weeks to go.

So, this is happening.

“I pencil, ink and color everything I make,” Dakota said. “Writing means that I can control the layouts. We did have a letterer on board but he couldn’t commit so I had to take over. Luckily, he taught me a few pointers before that.

“I am working with Trouble Studios to get it published — that’s run by Judah Radd, who makes his own book, Charon 13,” he added.

This is only the beginning. Dakota has 15 issues planned out.

“Lord only knows how long that will take,” he laughed.

  1. I’m not a fan of horror. But, I am a fan of the Bronze Age. I’ve already backed this on Kickstarter. I’m very excited to give this a chance.

  2. Wow, he does embody that era! Love those pseudonym’s also.
Now if only that back cover is a STAR TREK or KING KONG movie ad it would be complete!
