DESPOP TUESDAYS!
Raiders of the Lost Ark came out 44 years ago — June 12, 1981, to be precise — and if not for Superman II, it would have been my big movie that summer (For Your Eyes Only was a bit of a letdown).
Since then, Raiders and its sequels have become part of the pop culture firmament, with a dedicated fandom that just wouldn’t let Harrison Ford quit.
For me, though, that first one — which, by the way, I do not acknowledge as the retroactively renamed Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, any more than I do Star Wars: A New Hope — is still far and away the best one.
Our pal Des Taylor digs Indy too, so enjoy this week’s DESPOP TUESDAYS gallery:

Not for nothing, Des’ latest project — Eva Strongbird and the Marine, which owes a lot to Indiana Jones-style derring-do and classic pulp adventure — is set to launch its Kickstarter on July 15. Click here for more info.

Wow This is wonderful! I was taking a film class around this time and our teachers gushed over this movie! I gotta grab my magnifying glass…I wonder if there’s an Oscar statuette hidden in the hieroglyphics in the wall behind Ke Huy Quan?
