POWER RECORDS Is Back — on VINYL and Complete With Expanded Classic NEAL ADAMS Halloween Comic

EXCLUSIVE: Studio Chikara and Neal Adams’ family win Halloween…

This is about as cool as it gets.

Studio Chikara, which in 2022 officially brought back the Power Records label with a Halloween compilation CD, has teamed up with Neal Adams’ family for The House of Terror 40th Anniversary Set — on 180gsm vinyl (!) and with Adams’ classic, accompanying “Monsters” comic extended and re-colored.

It’s the first new Power Records vinyl release in four decades. (The material, except for the book, was on last year’s CD.)

No trick. All treat!

“This exciting opportunity to reissue an album I loved as a child was too good to pass by,” sez Studio Chikara founder Robert V. Conte. “One of the best spoken-word with sound effects records ever made is back for an all-new generation to enjoy.”

First released in 1975 as A Story of Dracula, the Wolfman and Frankenstein, the re-named House of Terror was last issued on vinyl in 1982, Conte said. It was a two-album set with other stories, and an accompanying comic by Adams.

The original

This time, the one-disc album is made on 180gsm vinyl, with bonus content including an entire B-side of Power Records “Ghostly Sounds,” an all-new gatefold jacket, liner notes, photos, and, thanks to Continuity, a recolored version of the original 16-page booklet — now extended to a 48-page graphic novel.

The first 100 copies, featuring “vampyre-red, blood-splatter” vinyl with an additional surprise, debut this weekend at New York Comic Con Booth #3935, located at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

The total print run is strictly limited to 1,000 copies, Conte said, with the remaining 900 units being released nationwide starting Tuesday, Oct. 17. Two variants exist: 400 additional units of the edition premiering at NYCC, and the remaining 500 copies on traditional black vinyl. The editions will be available directly at Studio Chikara, eBay and participating retailers for $49.99 each.

The set, under exclusive license from Power Records’ parent company Inspired Studios, is the first of several planned vinyl reissues, Conte said.

“The resurgence of this genre opens several opportunities to relive history, and that’s one of Studio Chikara’s top goals,” he said.

  3. If only it had been one of the BATMAN records, I would definitely buy that for the grand kids to experience. Maybe if this one is successful….
