Dive in with Lee, Kirby and Colan…
Marvel in 2021 is finally planning on publishing its first Namor, the Sub-Mariner Epic Collection, according to a listing on Amazon.
Thing is, it’s not clear what exactly is in the book — subtitled Enter the Sub-Mariner.
Here’s what we know:
— The 408-page paperback is scheduled for April 27, 2021 (which usually means a week or two earlier in comics shops). It’s priced at $39.99.
— There is no description and no issue list, but the cover credits Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Gene Colan. The listing adds Dick Ayers and Wally Wood.
— Adding that up, my take is that the book will include all of Subby’s Silver Age appearances — including his Tales to Astonish run — short of the launch of his 1968 solo book. There’s no mention of Roy Thomas or John Buscema, which lends credence to that. Either way, time will tell.
— Standard caveat: This has obviously not been solicited by Marvel yet, so nothing is official until it’s official. Even then, things can change. Just keep coming to 13th Dimension for updates.

I enjoyed those early stories. Colan’s work here, in DD and Ironman were some of his best.

I loved how Namor would woooo over Sue Storm of the Fantastic four, but was a male Chauvanist to all other female surface dwellers!

A pity that is mainly material already released but I will be buying it for completist reasons for the Tales to Astonish material. It is great they have finally gotten around to the Sub Mariner epics, been looking forward to this for a while. Now if only they would get around to Defenders 1, Warlock 1, Sgt Fury 2, …
