Buncha thoughts:

— Any time we do a story in the vein of 13 DC COMICS FACSIMILE EDITIONS WE’D LIKE TO SEE, Showcase #4 comes up. It’s also one I often forget hasn’t been released because it’s something of a stunner that it took until now to get it done.

— Then again, it’s tough to tell how far out DC plans the Facsimile Edition schedule. It’s something the publisher keeps close to the vest.

— As I mentioned, there are four other DC Facsimile Editions in July that are worth your attention. Links below!

— Actually there are a total of seven DC or DC-related FEs coming that month, when you include the previously announced Avengers/JLA #2, which was delayed from June and is due July 1, and Marvel’s JLA/Avengers #3, due July 22.

Obligatory Price Comparison: The chances of finding an unslabbed, original Showcase #4 are slim and none and slim left town. Actually, that’s not entirely true: a coverless copy that was restored and given a repro cover sold on eBay for $2,900. On the other hand, a slabbed, 9.6-graded original sold through Heritage Auctions in 2024 for $900,000, including buyer’s premium.

  1. Yes!!! That’s what I’m talking about. Put me down for 5-6 copies of each (except GL). I’m really excited to give my grandsons copies of “Robin Dies at Dawn”.

  3. Another perfect book to share with youngsters. I still remember reading the origin story on a back porch steps in Secret Origins. Now please DC release Flash 135 that you were supposed to release as a dollar comics in 2020 when Covid changed everything.

  4. Current math including known solicitations:

DC has 162 facsimile editions through the modern reprint program.
    Marvel has 163.

(This is also tricky because I divided out crossover publications by publisher–so each company gets HALF, or two issues, of JLA/Avengers, for example.) At this rate, DC will overtake Marvel in August.

    Other current fun facts:
    – There’s 32 facsimiles of JUST the Batman title. (This includes the anticipated but not soliticted facsimile of Batman #497.)
    – There’s another 16 facsimiles of Detective Comics.
    – There’s another 15 of non-monthly various Batman comics like TDKR.

    Other remaining lengthy runs:
    – Crisis on Infinite Earths (12 issues)
    – LCE/ANCE treasuries (11 issues)
    – Superman reprints are still weirdly low (8 issues of Action, 2 of Adventure, and 3 of the original 1940 Superman series)

    • Thank you for the update, working from memory, I think there have been 3 Flash issues ( including a Showcase) and sadly only two Gil Kane, Green Lantern titles (which includes one Showcase title.)

      • My math has the following for Flash:
        Flash Comics #1
        Flash #105
        Flash #123
        …and now Showcase #4.

        Green Lantern is:
        Green Lantern (1960) #1
        Green Lantern #59
        Green Lantern #85
        Green Lantern #87
        Green Lantern (1990) #49
        Green Lantern (1990) #50
And Showcase #22 (1st Hal Jordan) and All-American Comics #16 (1st Alan Scott).
