George Perez’s JLA #197 makes the cover cut…
DC Comics has updated the cover, contents and release date for this fall’s Justice League of America: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 4.
The publisher is going from Rich Buckler and Mike DeCarlo’s 1982 JLA #210-inspired front…
… to one based on George Perez and DeCarlo’s 1981 JLA #197.
The book has also been moved from an Oct. 6 release date to Nov. 17, 2026.

According to the Near Mint Condition YouTube channel, all future Silver Age and Bronze Age omnibuses will be using the terrible and inferior “period appropriate paper” going forward. That is a hard no-buy decision from me.

I love the era appropriate paper. I find the glossy paper stock that most use for Silver/Bronze Age omnis saturates the colours drastically. The era appropriate paper seems to fix this issue and bring the colouring back to how it was intended. I’m all in for it.

More power to you. I despise the paper (it’s an inferior quality paper (it has the weight and texture of construction paper with visible paper fibers damaging the presentation of the imagery) being sold at a premium price), and I just cancelled all of my pre-orders for upcoming Silver and Bronze Age omnibuses (which was close to $1,000). For DC’s sake, I hope there are more people like you than there are me in their feelings on this issue.

Bit of an odd choice to include all those FIRESTORM backups in THE FLASH—I’d have thought that would go into a FINEST Firestorm volume just fine, but it’s sort of weird to have it take up so much space in a JLA book. Feels weirdly like padding.

the inclusion of the Firestorm backup stories from The Flash #289–292, along with the concluding Firestorm/Flash team‑up in #293. Altogether, the material is only about 40 pages, but it fills an important historical gap.
Why these stories matter:
They contain George Pérez’s first published work for DC, including the earliest depiction of Zatanna in her ponytail look.
They establish the initial Firestorm–Flash dynamic, which directly feeds into the tone and character interplay in JLA #192–193 (also by Pérez).
The previous omnibus already included DC Comics Presents #17 to highlight Firestorm’s path toward the League—these Flash backups complete that developmental arc.
Including this short run would make Volume 4 more historically complete and honor a key moment in Pérez’s early DC career.
