— Naturally, this won’t reprint every story that appeared in the 100-Pagers and Dollar Comics. The former featured reprints and the latter shows gaps in its story list. The Supergirl stories, for example, are likely being used for Supergirl volumes.
— Jimmy Olsen #163 was the final issue before the 1974 merger with Lois Lane and Supergirl that created Superman Family. Interestingly, the book lists Lois Lane #136, but not that series’ last installment, which was #137. Perhaps that’ll get updated.
— The first DC Finest: Superman Family volume collected stories from the Silver Age, highlighted by the Jimmy Olsen epic, The Giant Turtle Man.

I am VERY EXCITED to see this volume as I love those Superman Family issues (especially the dollar comics), but why so much skipping of issues???

Lois Lane 137 came out (along with Supergirl 10) six months after Superman Family was created (continuing Jimmy Olsen’s numbering) by “merging” Lois Lane and Supergirl into that comic. Seems the two summer extras were burning inventory or adding extra issues during the higher selling summer months, or both.
Looking at Lois Lane 137 and Supergirl 10, their trade dress did not fully match that of other DC Comics of that month. They had a “standard” 20 cent price label (with the issue number and issue mont) in the upper right circle. Other DC comics of that month had “Still Only 20 (cents)” in that circle. Marvel had raised their prices a few months earlier, so DC was getting back at them for using a similar tactic from a couple years earlier. This adds to the thought that DC was burning inventory, with two comics seeming ready to go to print.
Could be that those in charge of writing these blurbs just missed that, and was only looking at the “merge” timeframe. (I’m guessing they weren’t collecting comics in 1974!) I expect 137 to be included in this DC Finest.
