HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Batman: Bad Seeds — Gotham General #1, DC. Great concept that’s unfortunately been torpedoed by delays. Greg Rucka brings the Gotham Central concept to the ER — series artist Rosa Ekedal’s cover is a direct homage to Michael Lark’s 2002 Gotham Central #1 cover — with a two-issue offshoot of the Bad Seeds crossover/event. Problem is, that event ends this week (see below), so the second issue will come out about a month after it’s all over. I bet you it’s terrific but I also bet you that sales will be even lower for what’s already a niche mini. Oh, well. I plan on reading it anyway, because I love the idea. Also includes art by the terrific Steve Lieber.

Batman: Bad Seeds — Sunrise #1, DC. The event finale, like I said.

—

Superman: The Wedding Album 30th Anniversary Special #1, DC. Click here for more on this one-shot.

But boy, check out this Joshua Middleton variant:

—

Harley Quinn #1 Facsimile Edition, DC. Reprinting the premiere issue of Harley’s first solo ongoing. By Karl Kesel and the Dodsons.

Plus, the current Harley Quinn #67, a Bad Seeds tie-in, is also out this week, and there’s a variant by the Dodsons:

—

The Rocketeer Poster Book, IDW. 21 detachable Dave Stevens posters! Swell!

—

Marvel Fanfare #2 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. The House of Ideas reaches back to the acclaimed 1980s anthology series to help promote its new horror-themed Midnight line.

—

Justice League Unlimited #24, DC. Because floating heads.

—

Thor #802, Marvel. Oh my, check out the variant by Jorge Fornes. It just might be the prettiest cover I’ve seen this year. Here’s a tease:

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Moon Knight Epic Collection: The Resurrection War, Marvel. Moon Knight is another kind of blank spot in my Marvel reading that needs to be rectified.

—

DC Finest: Teen Titans — Terra in the Night!, DC. Marv Wolfman and George Perez at the height of their creative powers. The New Teen Titans never got any better.

Dan adds: What’s especially cool about this edition is that it includes the three never-collected drug-awareness stories produced in conjunction with the President’s Drug Awareness Campaign. Fun facts: The first issue was sponsored by Keebler, so the Protector was created as a stand-in for Robin, because the Teen Wonder was licensed by Nabisco. Also, Starfire’s revealing costume was altered to make her appear less va-va-voom, because, y’know, kids.

—

Marvel’s Mightiest Monsters, Dark Horse. Very excited for this curated collection of pre-Marvel Universe monster tales. Tons of Lee/Kirby/Ditko goodness herein.
