Batman #11 Facsimile Edition, DC. There were two Golden Age Batman Facsimile Editions I wanted more than any other, and we’re getting both before the end of the year. The first is 1942’s Batman #11, boasting the Joker’s first cover appearance — pencilled by Fred Ray and inked by Jerry Robinson — a cover that just happens to be the greatest Golden Ager of them all. There’s a Penguin story in the issue too. Not only am I getting the foil and sketch logo covers, I may get an extra standard cover to frame!

Superman: The Stranger #1, DC. A new Black Label miniseries by Wes Craig that chronicles Superman’s earliest adventures in a truer-to-life version of the 1930s. Reminiscent of Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins’ The Bat-Man: First Knight Black Label projects. Click here for a SNEAK PEEK.

Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special, IDW. A one-shot anthology whose title says it all, by folks including Mike and Laura Allred, Brian Michael Bendis, David Walker, and many more. I’m getting the NECA Ben Cooper variant because OF COURSE. (Boy, do we have some Star Trek goodies coming for you at 13th Dimension in September!)

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home – The Making of the Classic Film, Titan. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of what a lot of folks consider the best Star Trek movie of them all. (To me, it’s unquestionably Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, but I can see the argument.)

Archie: The Decision & Other Stories Deluxe Edition and Archie #1, Oni Press/Archie. The Archie/Oni partnership kicks off with a new, modern-style Archie series and the first of many vintage collections. The Decision, by Tom King and Dan Parent, came out not long ago, but the book also includes a bunch of classics curated by the writer and artist.

Marvel Dimensions, Abrams ComicArts/Marvel. Alex Ross’ latest takes the beginning of the Marvel Universe and turns it on its head. Includes a bonus comic book that’s connected to the story. Click here for a SNEAK PEEK.

There’s this fab Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns 40th anniversary cover among the variants, too.

JSA #23, DC. The penultimate issue of Jeff Lemire’s time on the book starts a two-part series finale that takes place in the 1950s, when the Society was underground. I thought JSA: Year One was terrific, so this feels like something of a bookend.

Legion of Super-Heroes #1, DC. I’m not a Legion guy so I’m not picking this up, but it demands a mention, so consider this a public service announcement. By Joshua Williamson and Hayden Sherman. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb saying this has Eisner potential.

Among the 1,000,006 variants is this cover by Dan Mora starring Michael J. Fox. I love Michael J. Fox. Fuck Parkinson’s.

Spider-Woman 50th Anniversary Special #1, Marvel. Annie Nocenti returns for this one-shot! Annie’s great. I prefer the Greg Land variant.

Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange: Triumph and Torment, Marvel. Not a Facsimile Edition — but a reprint of the 1989 classic in comic-book size for the first time. The main cover is by Peach Momoko, but the variant is Mike Mignola art from an earlier edition.

Jonah Hex: A Face Full of Violence, DC. Writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray’s Jonah Hex was superb, and as readers we’re poorer for its absence. This new edition brings their first six issues from 20 years ago back into print. (Hex is having a moment right now with a new DC Finest collection coming in December, and a new miniseries by Michael Walsh — Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death — starting in October.)

The Groovy Hand Lettering Workbook, Skittledog. Just in time for Letterer Appreciation Day on Sept. 1, we get this fun one from Linda Scott that promises “the retro styles and vibes of the 1960s and 1970s.”

Iron Man Epic Collection: Demon in a Bottle, Marvel. The legendary run by David Michelinie, Bob Layton and John Romita Jr. begins, including the landmark story where Tony Stark succumbs to the depths of alcoholism.

DC Finest: Harley Quinn — The Ballad of Harley Quinn, DC. A batch of fun Harley tales by Karl Kesel, with lovely art from Terry and Rachel Dodson.

Superman: The Triangle Era Omnibus Vol. 3, DC. DC’s ’90s weekly Superman storytelling at its finest, with the introduction of the four replacement Supermen who showed up in the weeks following Kal-El’s death at the hands of Doomsday. This is good stuff.
