HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

DC and Marvel Present: Superman and Spider-Man (aka Marvel Treasury Edition #28) Facsimile Edition, DC/Marvel. Last month, we got the 1976 original, now we get the 1981 sequel. In March and April, it’ll be the brand-new Superman/Spider-Man #1 and Spider-Man/Superman #1, respectively. Batman vs. the Incredible Hulk can’t be far behind, can it?

In addition to a foil variant, there’s Brian Bolland’s alternate and a sketch logo cover:

Side note: There’s a GREAT variant cover by Steve Rude this week — for The Amazing Spider-Man #21. You gotta see it!

Batman #6, DC. The return of Hugo Strange and his Monster Men! I really dig that main cover by series artist Jorge Jimenez, too. It’s, shall we say, dynamic.

Among the variants is the latest Jimenez gadget cover:

JSA #16, DC. Jeff Lemire and Gavin Guidry are doing a terrific job with a new take on the Justice Society’s origins. First-rate.

Action Cat & Adventure Bug: Let’s Do This!, PaperCutz. Our pal Franco and his pal Art Baltazar — he’s actually our pal too — kick off the Aw Yeah Comics Universe with PaperCutz. With new stories and classic tales! Comes in both hardcover and paperback flavors.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

DC Finest: Wonder Woman — Enter the Cheetah, DC. More bold and bizarre Golden Age Wonder Woman tales from her creators William Moulton Marston and H.G. Peter.

Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit: Connoisseur Edition, Act 4/Image. A must for any Darwyn Cooke fan, this beautiful, slip-cover hardcover volume collects the artist’s entire DC Spirit run, as well as the criminally underrated Batman/The Spirit one-shot. This is larger than a DC Absolute Edition, at 9″ x 13″.

Avengers #35, Marvel. Again, the Russell Dauterman cover has me sold.

Fantastic Four Epic Collection: Back to the Basics, Marvel. John Byrne’s legendary run on the FF begins here!

Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four #1, Marvel. It’s a Madhouse! A MAAAAADHOOOOOOUSE!

Dan adds: A lot of covers for this one, but I prefer the variants by German Peralta…

… and Phil Noto:

  1. Darwyn Cooke’s The Spirit is one of my most anticipated books this year. I hope someone writes an illustrated biography of Cooke someday (in the same style as that three-volume IDW biography of Alex Toth about 15 years ago). He was an amazing talent gone too soon.

    • If the Spiderman/superman Facsimile is like the one before with whole panels lost in a gutter loss that I haven’t seen even in the tightiest of omnibi then it’s a pass for me

  2. I believe the Spirit book has been delayed until next month. Amazon has a sale date of March 3rd.

  3. Loving the rerelease of crossover tabloids!

Fingers crossed we get Batman Hulk next.

And all fingers crossed hoping the X-men Teen Titans rerelease gets upscaled to tabloid size (like DC did with the Intold Legend of Batman)!
