HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

New History of the DC Universe #3, DC. Mark Waid’s great retelling of DC history continues!

Dan adds: It’s been delayed until now — but it’s worth the wait. Terrific series so far.

Metamorpho: The Element Man, DC. If you missed out on the great monthly from Al Ewing and Steve Lieber, catch up with the collection.

Dan adds: Great, great series. It’s so disappointing it couldn’t get past six issues. So much fun.

Battleworld #1, Marvel. Is this a Secret Wars sequel? Either way, if that’s the return of the real Hank Pym, I’m buying it.

Marvel Masterworks: The Man-Thing Vol. 2, Marvel. Steve Gerber and Mike Ploog’s legendary 1970s Man-Thing stories, newly restored and collected!

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Detective Comics #1101, DC. I continue to sample September’s Bat-titles. I’m a fan of both Tom Taylor and Mikel Janin, so let’s see.

New Fun Comics #1 Facsimile Edition, DC. UPDATED: This IS treasury-size! Marking DC’s 90th anniversary, it was originally published in 1935 and it’s the first comic ever to feature only new material. Foil and sketch covers both available.

Archie’s Girls, Betty and Veronica #75, Archie. The one from 1961 where they sell their souls to the devil. For real!

Also has a groovy mash-up variant cover:

X-Men #139 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. Welcome to the X-Men, Kitty Pryde — Hope You Survive the Experience! (SPOILER: She does.)

Author: Dan Greenfield

  1. I wonder how the various facsimiles are selling compared to the new titles?

  2. I bought the hard cover treasury of New Fun at Ollie’s a couple years ago.

  3. Are you saying that the New Fun #1 facsimile will be the same dimensions as a current (2025) comic? Well, all I can say is that I’ve always been curious to see what it would look like in regular comic size… and I say that only because I’ve always presumed the aborted 2000 Millennium Edition reprint of New Fun #1 would have been standard size.

But I can’t believe it’s still going to be $9.99.

      • That’s good to know. I love the Famous First Edition hardcover that came out in 2020, but it’ll be interesting to see how this “handles” as a treasury-size 32-page floppy.

  4. New Fun #1 is about an inch and a half taller than the usual treasury size, and just slightly wider, so a different shape from most comics one sees. A narrower rectangle than modern comics. Seems an odd choice, unless this is close to the original’s proportions. The internal material seems to fit that configuration well.
