HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Detective Comics #140 Facsimile Edition, DC. Oh boy, have I been waiting for this one. And if you’re curious, check out 13 PANELS THAT SHOW THE RIDDLER WAS COOL FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. If nothing else came out this week, I’d be completely satisfied.

There’s also a foil variant (I don’t usually go for those but I don’t think I’ll be able to resist this one) and this groovy sketch variant:

Eerie Archives #1, Dark Horse. Now in softcover! Collecting the first five issues and featuring some of the biggest talent in comics and fantasy, including Archie Goodwin, Frank Frazetta, Joe Orlando, Jack Davis, Reed Crandall, John Severin, Johnny Craig, Gray Morrow, Gene Colan, Alex Toth, Al Williamson, Steve Ditko, Wally Wood and many others. Wow! Perfect timing, Dark Horse!

Vampirella #1 Facsimile Edition #1, Dynamite. Dynamite has reprinted Vampi #1 as a Facsimile Edition before, but this time they’re giving it an homage cover by Matt DiMasi. Interesting. The occasion? Sara Frazetta’s new miniseries.

Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #344 and Archie Halloween Spectacular One-Shot, Archie. Pick up the pair for a fun combo of new and old Halloween stories. Hey, why is Archie dressed up like Lord Death Man? And who knew that Betty was a Harley Quinn fan? And it sure seems like Sabrina digs Captain Marvel. And then there’s Kevin Keller Krueger. Hunh.

Yellow Submarine, Insight. Bill Morrison’s fab adaptation is back in print! And hey, how about that push to get a Yellow Submarine ongoing series? Pretty neat idea, huh? Even Bill thinks so!

Shazam #4, DC. Chris Samnee, this variant is beautiful:

Walter Simonson’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition, IDW/Marvel. Walt’s FF in raw form. It’s clobberin’ time!

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Alien Annual #1, Marvel. It sounds like the Alien Queen is the protagonist here, which is kind of intriguing.

Ghost Rider Annual #1, Marvel. Ever since last year’s Werewolf by Night premiere on Disney+, I’ve been looking for some more Elsa Bloodstone appearances. Here we go.

Fantastic Four #12, Marvel. Is that a Thor dinosaur? Is that a Cap dinosaur? Shut up and take my money.

  1. I’ll only be getting (multiple) copies of Detective. However, the “Captain Marvel” does look pretty good too.
