HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

The Best Marvel Stories by Stan Lee Omnibus, Marvel. Marvel is trolling old-school fans hard with this one. You just know there’s a corner of the internet out there where the collective rending of garments can be heard all the way to the House of Ideas. I, for one, appreciate Stan Lee’s extraordinary showmanship and hucksterism. And while you (rightfully but respectfully) debate who plotted what, I will say that Lee — at the very, very least — wrote damn entertaining dialogue and hilarious captions. Jack Kirby was Artistic Marvel’s heart and soul. Stan Lee was Commercial Marvel’s vision. And that counts for an awful lot.

Cat-Man and Kitten #1, Dynamite. Writer Jeff Parker yanks the public-domain, Golden Age twosome from obscurity to bring you this one-shot illustrated by Joseph Cooper. (Cover by Jung-Geun Yoon.) Can’t pass this up.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Justice Society of America #1, DC. All you need to get my money are the words “Justice Society.”

Superman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 7, DC Comics. I do love some 1950s Superman.

Thor: Epic Collection — Blood and Thunder, Marvel. A Jim Starlin-penned cosmic crossover!

Author: Dan Greenfield

  1. After many release dates set and delayed time after time, DC finally — FINALLY — releases the 7th Golden Age Superman omnibus! DC has been trolling their fans for this one since volume 6 was released in 2019. Now if Zaslav would only realize that he could start paying off some of that WBD debt by releasing more of DC’s back library.

  2. I agree entirely with you about Stan. Without him, there would be no Marvel Comics today.
