Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child, DC. Like a moth to a flame, I cannot resist a Frank Miller Dark Knight Universe story – even though I well know it could be bad for me. At least I can be sure that I’ll be knocked out by the Rafael Grampa art. The rest? We’ll have to see.

Superman #18, DC. OK, this is a bit of a tough one, to be fair. Superman is going to give up his Clark Kent identity and the ramifications will be felt throughout the DC Universe. Thing is, we just saw this premise play out a few years ago, so it feels a little too soon to go back to this particular well. So, I look forward to seeing what Brian Michael Bendis, Ivan Reis and Joe Prado bring to this.

Dragonfly & Dragonflyman #2, AHOY Comics. Tom Peyer’s satire of Adam West’s Batman and Frank Miller’s Dark Knight goes well beyond irreverence and gives you an insightful look at the nature of heroism, the questionable status quo and the corruption of the soul. Peter Krause is the penciller. (Click here for an INSIDE LOOK at Jamal Igle’s cover.)

Detective Comics #1017, DC. Three selling points: Batman and Robin (Damian), together again. Tom Taylor’s the guest writer. The art by Fernando Blanco and colorist John Kalisz looks terrific too.

Dollar Comics: Tales of the Teen Titans Annual #3, DC. God, this issue was HUGE when it came out. The climax of The Judas Contract, by Wolfman, Perez and Giordano. One of the greatest single issues of the Bronze Age. (The Dollar Comic reprint is being released now because DC is also publishing a Dark Multiverse version of the story this week.)

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #13, Marvel. I’ll read this just on the premise alone: Saladin Ahmed, Alitha E. Martinez, Javier Garron and co. take a page out of The Warriors and have Spider-Man and the Prowler embark on a deadly odyssey from Washington Heights to Red Hook. (Click here for a SNEAK PREVIEW.)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #100, IDW Publishing. Writer Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman’s TMNT series is one I very seldom talk about here, but is month for month one of the most satisfying comics being published today. This big centennial issue wraps up much of the long-running storyline and sets the stage for big changes in the future. Highly recommended. Art by Dave Wachter.

Tigra: The Complete Collection TPB, Marvel. Tigra’s animated series on Hulu may have just been shelved, but you can read her solo adventures from the 1970s in this collection! (And while you’re at it, track down her first stint as an Avenger in the ’80s, starting with Issue #211 – good stuff!)
