Marvel Comics #1000, Marvel. This is Marvel’s big, fancy 80^th anniversary extravaganza, featuring a gazillion creators, past and present. Calling it Marvel Comics #1000 is a big, ol’ cheat, but hey. (Adds Scott: I really have no idea what to expect with this, but if nothing else the Alex Ross cover and the creators list have my attention.)

Superman of Smallville, DC. Did you read Superman Family Adventures by Art Baltazar and Franco a few years back? If you haven’t, go track it down. It’ll make your day. Anyway, they’re back with this OGN that’s part of DC’s push for younger readers. Aw yeah.

Detective Comics #1010, DC. Still the best ongoing Batbook right now. This one’s got Deadshot and Mr. Freeze. Neat. By Peter J. Tomasi, Christian Duce and co.

House of Secrets #92 Facsimile Edition, DC. Swamp Thing’s first appearance, by Wein and Wrightson – complete with original ads, letters and whatnot. (Click here for an EXCLUSIVE INSIDE LOOK.)

Amazing Spider-Man: Venom 3D #1, Marvel. Reprinting The Amazing Spider-Man #300 by David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane in, yep, 3D!

Marvel Monsters #1, Marvel. A really groovy one-shot celebration of the – you guessed it – Marvel monsters. There’s tons of splash pages and pin-ups by some of comics’ top artists – including truly funky cross-sections by cult-fave Superlog. (Click here for a SNEAK PEEK.)

Tales of the Batman: Gerry Conway, Vol. 3 HC, DC Comics. More of Conway’s ’80s Batman classics, including the return of Deadshot and the debut of Killer Croc!

Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman Complete Collection Vol. 2 TPB, Marvel. I thought Hickman was an excellent fit for the FF, giving the book a unique personality and level of excitement it hadn’t had since Mark Waid’s run, or John Byrne’s before that. Much recommended.

She-Hulk Annual #1, Marvel. Here’s hoping this marks a return to the fun-loving Jennifer Walters of old. I’m not much taken with the current broody version. By Alexandra Petri, Andy MacDonald and co.
