HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Sensational Spider-Man: Self-Improvement #1, DC. This Marvel 80th anniversary one-shot finally gives us fan Randy Schueller’s original 1980s story concept for black-suit Spider-Man – as adapted by Peter David and Rick Leonardi. There’s also a back-up by Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz and none other than Sal Buscema. Plenty for any old-school comics fan, right? (Click here for a SNEAK PREVIEW.)

The Green Lantern #10, DC. In classic Grant Morrison fashion, I freely admit that I don’t always understand what’s going on here. But it is always entertaining — especially now that the Multiverse is in play. Line art by Mr. Liam Sharp. Fancy cover!

Berserker Unbound #1, Dark Horse. Jeff Lemire turns his fertile imagination to a Conan-like warrior who finds himself in the modern world. It’s well-trod ground but Lemire always brings the goods. Art by Mike Deodato Jr., Frank Martin and Steve Wands.

Red Sonja and Vampirella Meet Betty and Veronica #3, Dynamite/Archie. Come for the Amy Chu/Maria Sanapo story. But stay for this far out variant by Robert Hack.

Archie: The Married Life 10th Anniversary #1, Archie. Michael Uslan revisits his landmark story from a decade ago, with Dan Parent and co. on art. (Click here for an INSIDE LOOK.)

Scott Tipton, Contributor-at-Large, 13th Dimension

Justice: The Deluxe Edition, DC. I’ve long thought this epic, widescreen Justice League tale by Jim Krueger and Alex Ross was wildly underrated. Check out it here in a gorgeous new hardcover edition.

H.G. Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreau #1, IDW Publishing. I’ve had a chance to look at Gabe Rodriguez’s art for this Ted Adams-written adaptation, and I’m telling you it is stunning.

Kirby Returns King Size HC, Marvel. A cool collection of Jack Kirby’s 1970s Marvel work, collected in Marvel’s new king-size format that emulates the size of original art pages. Good to know the Swine is in there…

Walter Simonson Star Wars Artist’s Edition HC, IDW Publishing. There’s nothing better than the combination of Walt Simonson and Star Wars. I loved these comics growing up.
