HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Scott Tipton, co-owner, Blastoff Comics, North Hollywood, Calif.

They Called Us Enemy, IDW Publishing/Top Shelf. One of the most anticipated books of the year, George Takei’s memoir of his childhood spent in American internment camps during World War II is more relevant than ever. (Co-written with Justin Eisinger and Steve Scott, with art by Harmony Becker.)

The Orville: New Beginnings #1, Dark Horse. Absolutely loving this show, so I’m eager to see how it translates to comics. By David A. Goodman, David Cabeza and co.

Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #1, DC Comics. A Matt Fraction Jimmy Olsen series? You have my attention… (Art by Steve Lieber and Nathan Fairbairn.)

For Better or for Worse: The Complete Library, Volume Three: 1986-1989, IDW Publishing. My only complaint about these volumes of Lynn Johnston’s classic newspaper strip is that they don’t come out often enough.

Ragnarok: The Breaking of Helheim #1, IDW Publishing. Walt Simonson is back with more Asgardian action. I love this series.

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Vampirella #1 Replica Edition, Dynamite. A 50th anniversary ads-and-all reprint of Vampi’s first appearance in 1969, originally published by Warren. You know whose work is in here? How about, say, Neal Adams, Reed Crandall, Mike Royer, Tom Sutton, Ernie Colon and Tony Tallarico. All for $6.99. Yes!

Vampirella #1, Dynamite. Aaaaand, Dynamite’s also releasing their latest Vampi series, too: An ongoing by Christopher Priest and Ergun Gunduz.

Justice League #28, DC. We’re on the brink of the Justice-Doom War and this is the best place to make sure you’re up to speed, naturally. By James Tynion IV, Javi Fernandez, et al.

Giant-Size X-Men #1 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. Another note-for-note, kitchen sink reprint. Man, I love these. For a penny under five bucks. Jeebus, that’s a great deal. (By the way, October’s run of True Believers dollar reprints is all about the X-Men. Click here for details.)
