HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to this week …

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Detective Comics #983, DC. AKA the Return of Batman and the Outsiders – or is it?! Heh. Bryan Edward Hill steps in as writer for the next arc, and he’s got Black Lightning with him. With line art by Miguel Mendonca.

Scooby-Doo Team-Up #39, DC. Hey, it’s the return of the Justice Society of America! The real, old-fashioned JSA! Used to be that summers meant JLA-JSA team-ups. Instead we get JSA-Mystery Inc. but I am totally down for that, what with this being one of the most fun comics produced today. By Sholly Fisch, Dario Brizuela and Franco Riesco. (Also picked by Scott!)

Batman: Prelude to the Wedding – Harley Quinn vs. the Joker #1, DC. The last part of the Bat-Wedding Saga before the wedding itself in July 4’s Batman #50. These connected one-shots have been solid entertainment. This one’s by Tim Seeley, Sami Basri and Jessica Kholinne.

Vampirella: Roses For the Dead #1, Dynamite. Old-school Vampi by Kristina Deak-Linsner and Joseph Michael Linsner.

Scott Tipton, co-owner, Blastoff Comics, North Hollywood, Calif.

Frank Cho’s Savage Wolverine Artist’s Edition HC, IDW Publishing. This one is an absolute beauty, reproducing Cho’s magnificent art at its original size. (Click here for a SNEAK PEEK.)

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Growing Pains TPB, Marvel. More reprint madness to promote the new film, this time focusing on Hank Pym’s adventures as Giant-Man. Check out some of the creators on this one: Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Don Heck, Steve Englehart, George Perez, Ed McGuinness and Christos Gage among them.

Fantastic Four Epic Collection: The New Fantastic Four TPB, Marvel. Walt Simonson and Art Adams’ non-FF FF run is an often-overlooked nugget from the ’90s.
