Start saving those Batpennies!
A little public-service announcement for the good citizens of Gotham: You can now pre-order the Batman ’66 William Shakespeare bust.
I don’t usually do this sort of thing, but this is an item I’m just so dang excited about, I wanna make sure my Batbrethren and Batsistren remain in the Batloop. (And, no, this is not a paid ad.)
The bust, which doubles as a bank, premiered at Toy Fair this year (click here for all the awesome). It’s produced by Diamond Select Toys and was sculpted by Paul Harding. You can get a behind-the-scenes look here, in fact.
Anyway, Ol’ Willie Shakes is starting to pop up at online retailers and will be available to order through your fave comics shop too. It will be out this fall/winter.
Here are two new promo pix, followed by one of the shots I took at Toy Fair. Below is Diamond Select’s official release.
Holy spare change!
Here’s the official release:
Batman Classic TV Series Shakespeare Bust Vinyl Bank
A Diamond Select Toys release! Quick, to the Bat-poles! Okay, so you haven’t installed those Bat-poles yet, but if you keep your spare change in this vinyl bank, you’ll save up for them in no time! Based on the bust of Shakespeare that unlocked the moving bookcase in the Batman Classic TV Series, this 20-inch tall vinyl bank features a working neck hinge, so you can tilt the head back to reveal a dial and button, as well as a real, working coin slot! With a coin access door hidden in the base, no one will suspect that this realistically painted bust is secretly a bank, or that you’re secretly Batman. Packaged in a full-color box. Sculpted by Paul Harding!
UPDATED SRP, according to Diamond: $85

I wish someone would find out how the original was made and write an article on it. Besides the Batmobile and the utility belt, this is iconic for the 1966 series.

I can’t wait for a DIY of how to wire the switch to a relay or wireless power adapter.

Damn, $85. Wasn’t it cheaper when they first announced it…?

Amazon’s asking $140!

I wouldn’t put too much stock in that price. That’s just a scalper trying to con fans. The list will be $85, so shop around.

That is in all likelohood a third-party seller, John. Avoid it. Even if not, avoid it. It will be available at list price or cheaper, elsewhere.

Originally listed at $65. Then jumped up. I preordered one at Big Boys Toys for $69.99. Let’s see if they honor that. Big $$ for vinyl.

Correction – Big Bad Toy Store. It’s online.
