A long-awaited omnibus series is finally on the way…
Hey, how about this: DC is planning to release Superman: The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 1 later in 2023, capping a long wait for fans who’ve been hankering for just such a collection.

A few thoughts:
— The 680-page hardcover lists for $100 and is scheduled for Dec. 5, 2023. Not even a preliminary cover has been released yet, so the art you see in this post are covers I’ve picked to represent the book. They’re in the edition, naturally.

Hopefully they will follow Marvel’s lead and include the letter columns from the original issues. That’s a lot of the fun of the Omnibus editions: seeing the readers’ reactions to the stories at the time, as well as the editorial replies. As I recall the Superman comics were some of the first DC’s to have letters pages. And apparently the recent Silver Age Wonder Woman omni had the letters included, so there is reason to be optimistic!

Looking forward to this. Silver Age Omnis that I’d still like to see: Aquaman, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Atom, Martian Manhunter, and Challengers of the Unknown (the Kirby issues).

Some of those are available in the Archives series, but not as many as I (and I assume you) would like. I’d also like to see those you mention as well as Elongated Man and Blackhawk stories collected in Omnibus editions (I’d need a new house with a dedicated library room for all of them).

Interestingly enough is that the SIlver Age Dailies and Sundays from this era pick up on some of the same story ideas that will be in this volume. Some tell the same story, some are alternate takes on a story, some take a portion of a story and expand on it, and some just pick up on the grain of an idea and run with it. It’ll be fun to have collections of the comic book stories and the newspaper stories on the shelf in order to compare and contrast.

I will be purchasing this although I do have the three volumes of the Superman Man of Tomorrow archives which pretty much covers the entire collection

You’re right, the three Archives books covers Action 241-268 and Superman 122-139 so it has more than the omnibus edition. I’ll wait and see how much it will cost and weigh up my finances (and shelf space) before commiting myself.
